Paul McCartney - “Coming Up” from 1980’s MCCARTNEY II
Keep in mind this video is made in 1980. This is odd for a few reasons.
One, Paul McCartney doesn’t seem to have aged between 1965 and 1980.
Two, the song itself sounds like how LCD Soundsystem WISHES he could sound, today. Paul basically invented electronic pop on this album and I don’t think it’s ever gotten its due.
Check out another track called “Darkroom”. What’s that sound like? It sounds like Paul McCartney inventing drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep in 1980, stuttery 2-step beat and all.
Lastly, this video is INSANE. Nobody was doing shit this cool at the time, MTV didn’t even get around to stuff this cool until THRILLER.
Anybody else see the resemblance to the video for Outkast’s “Hey Ya”? Also, note Paul playing Ron Mael of Sparks, and I think Mick Fleetwood on drums. Of course, Buddy Holly.
This song is credited, according the book The Last Days of John Lennon, via Wikipedia, with stirring John Lennon out of his house-husband-y retirement. He dug it.

Hang in there for some killer in-camera live effects during the second tune.
